 By the coast
Clifftops, sandy dunes and rocky beaches are home to more unusual plants that grow in all shapes and sizes. Many different kinds of seaweed grow along the shoreline and flowers like thrift and samphire brighten up the rocks and cliffs.
Plants that grow by the sea need to be extremely tough as they have to cope with strong icy winds in the winter and scorching hot heat in the summer. The air is also full of sea salt which only the hardiest plants can survive.
