civil war A war between different groups of people living in the same country.
documentary A television or radio programme or a film that gives factual information about a particular subject.

conservation An effort to protect and preserve something that is valuable, especially the natural environment.
COVID–19 An infectious disease discovered in 2019, caused by a virus called a coronavirus. In 2020, the disease spread quickly to almost every country in the world, which is called a pandemic.
Dame A title given to a woman in recognition of important work she has done or for service to her country.
First World War (1914–1918) The war fought between the Central Powers (led by Germany) and the Allied Powers (led by Great Britain, France, Russia and the USA) over control of Europe, with the Allied Powers winning. Over 16 million people died.
foster family When a child lives with a foster family, he or she becomes part of the family for a period of time without legally becoming the child
of their foster parents.
