                from ROOFTOPPERS
You have been the great green adventure of my life. Without you my
days would be unlit.
It was what her mother had always been. A place to put down her heart. A resting stop to recover her breath. A set of stars and maps.
Katherine Rundell
Sophie, the heroine of Katherine Rundell’s delightful novel Rooftoppers, has no parents, and at the same time she has the perfect ones. Her guardian, who found her as a baby, speaks the words in the first quotation, which show how much he loves her. The second quotation is from Sophie’s thoughts about her missing mother.
I hope you have a parent or guardian for whom, as Rundell puts it so beautifully, you are the “great green adventure” and the light. And who is, for you, a set of stars and maps.
You can find more things to read from Katherine Rundell on pages 125 and 128.
