Page 28 - SYTYGIB: Ancient Greece
P. 28

So, what kind of AWESOME and BRILLIANT things did ancient Greek kids get to learn about at school?
Poetry, of course! Boys (who were the only type of ancient Greek kid you would find in schools) learned to read and write, and spent a lot of time focusing on the work of a great poet called HoMeR (no, he has nothing the do with The Simpsons).
I simply adore the works of Homer . . . although I´m not so keen on the poems of Bart, Lisa or Maggie.
They learned his poems about gOdS, hErOeS and BaTtLeS in far-off lands by heart – which is quite impressive considering they are eXtremely long. In fact, one of them called The Iliad is a brain-bending 15,693 lines in length!
If you have trouble remembering simple things like your name and what a banana is for, then this may have been a struggle for you.
Boys also learned to sing and play the flute, lyre (which looked like a strange guitar) and harp.
Rock´n´roll dudes!!
What´s rock´n´roll?
