Sometimes a baby can’t be looked after by its birth family, so it is taken care of, or adopted, by a new family instead.
Lots of children all over the world are adopted, sometimes when they are babies and sometimes when they are older.
Being adopted might mean you look different from your parent, or brothers and sisters if you have any, but you are loved just as much.
