 Wood Pigeon
The wood pigeon is the largest pigeon in Europe and is very easy to spot when you are out and about – there are over five million pairs in the UK alone! While the British population do not like to move between areas, other European wood pigeons do travel to and from the Mediterranean
and have been found in parts of Western Asia.
They are a blue-grey colour with a pinker area on their chest and a green and white patch on their neck. It is difficult to find pigeon nests and baby
pigeons, but young pigeons are easiest to see between April and October – they are a little darker than adults and don’t have white or green feathers.
