 Tombs were often a target for thieves because mummies were buried with such valuable objects. Even linen and glass could be stolen and sold for a lot of money.
Robbers would secretly tunnel through the stone, burn down the coffins and rip open the mummies’ wrappings to get to the treasure hidden inside.
