Elsecar Making History: Pubs and Clubs Thursday 8 November
6pm - 8pm
Winter Waggonway
Elsecar has many great pubs, but in the past it used to have many more, as well as a number of working men’s clubs, sports clubs and a cinema – the Futurist on Hill Street. Do you remember Tommy Upstairs, or the Bun and Milk Club? Did you go to dances at the Milton Hall? Elsecar’s Heritage Action Zone would love to hear your stories of the village’s many pubs, clubs and other social venues, past and present. Join the team at Elsecar Heritage Visitor Centre for a chance to look at old photographs and share memories.

Join us for a fascinating walk from Elsecar to the ironstone fields at Tankersley, through an incredible, industrial landscape. The walk will follow sections of the historic waggonway network that connected the ironstone fields with the Milton and Elsecar ironworks, taking in former collieries and other sites of interest on the way.
Meet outside the Visitor Centre
The walk is approximately 6 miles (9 km) and includes some steep climbs, uneven ground and sections of road walking.
