AND SO TO BED...
BY DAY IT IS THE VISUAL FOCUS OF THE BEDROOM AND BY NIGHT IT SHOULD OFFER YOU THE SOUNDEST OF SLUMBERS SO TAKE TIME TO ENSURE YOUR BED FULFILS ITS DUAL ROLE WITH NO COMPROMISE.
Bed frames come in a range of styles and it’s wise to shop around as you can often nd good discounts online from retailers. Simple metal frames work well in smaller rooms whilst grand dark wood sleigh beds work beautifully where space isn’t an
issue. Upholstered beds are currently fashionable and you can have them covered in fabric to match your colour scheme. If your room is short of storage try an Ottoman style storage bed with a gas lift mechanism.
Four poster beds may sound dated
but actually they represent a key trend for 2018. The new style four poster bed is cleaner and more contemporary
- think urban loft rather than stately home! Another emerging style is
the use of cane or rattan in beds. Traditionally used in French-inspired furniture, this style of bed o ers an updated take on the romantic ‘shabby chic’ look, ideal in a bedroom.
Although there are some beautiful beds available online, mattresses
in particular are best tested out in person. Experiment with di erent bases and mattress types until you nd one that suits you. Tim Sedgwick, Director at Floor Depot in Chester eld
Beds from the Natural Bed company are UK made with natural sustainable materials Arran button headboard bed from £980
which stocks a large range of beds and mattresses advises: “Buy the largest bed and mattress your room will allow and the best quality you can a ord. The perfect mattress delivers just the right amount of support and keeps your spine aligned and that depends on your weight, height and even sleeping position.” If you and your partner prefer di erent levels of support there is no need to compromise. Tim suggests; “a dual tension mattress that o ers di erent
levels of support on each side or opt for zip and link mattresses.”
When you think about the amount of time you spend in bed - around 25 years of your life is spent sleeping - a new bed and mattress is a good investment. However the choice can be overwhelming. The Sleep Council produces an informative ‘Bed Buyers Guide’ which is especially helpful when choosing a mattress, see www.sleepcouncil.org.uk.
