                                  Celebrating
our 30th Anniversary!
The official opening of the Hospice
Throughout 2018, Ashgate Hospicecare celebrated 30 years of caring for people with a life-limiting illness. We held special events, drop in shops in Chesterfield, but most of all, we celebrated the work of all our fantastic staff over the years and had a specific focus on all the wonderful volunteers that have and continue to support us in a very special way – by giving their spare time to help others.
The Hospice began thanks to some incredible individuals who volunteered their time to make Ashgate
Hospicecare a reality. 30 years on, we rely more than ever on the amazing passion and determination of our wonderful volunteers.
Several volunteers have been with Ashgate Hospicecare for many years. We were so grateful and proud
to have celebrated a whopping 30 years (or more in some cases!)
of voluntary service with a handful of those volunteers.
Thank you so much to Brenda Bagshaw, Angela Coleman, Gwen Heath, Marjorie Preece, Dorothy
Tilley, and Kathleen White for the time they have devoted to Ashgate Hospicecare, our patients, our supporters and the community.
We would also like congratulate Helen Cooper, Ashgate Hospicecare Specialist Nurse and Sandi Steward, Healthcare Assistant, who have worked at Ashgate Hospicecare since we opened. Thank you to them both for their dedication throughout the years!

   In addition to the celebrations
for our 30th year, we also set
a challenge to everyone in our community to donate 30 hours of their time to volunteer for the Hospice, whether it be helping on our ward or working within one of our many shops!
Those who signed up to the challenge were able to log their hours on our website and share
it with their friends and family,
as well as prospective future employers. Well done to each and every one of you who signed up and completed your 30 hours this year! No matter what role you’ve played, every hour of your time that you’ve donated to the Hospice has helped to bring vital hospice care to more patients.
Throughout the year, we’ve been tracking the hours submitted to see who could reach the 30-hour target. We knew some would go over the 30 hours, but what we didn’t expect was some volunteers smashing that target out of the water! Denise Baker is one of them.
Denise Baker has been a volunteer with us for five years and signed up for our #30for30 challenge at the start of the year. At the time of writing this article, Denise has logged an incredible 617 hours and there’s still a month to go until the end of the year! Denise plays a vital role, volunteering her time at the Donation Centre on Storforth Lane sorting donations and selecting items to be sold on eBay and Amazon.
