SESSION 7 : Song of Songs Chapter 2:11-17; 3:1-5
His love and grace have brought her to the place of greater
consecration, and she vows to return to her first love and focus now on
Him, as opposed to herself.
There is a beautiful verse of scripture which, in my view, sums up
beautifully the above words from verse 4:
“For as the loincloth clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole
house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the Lord,
in order that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a
glory; but they would not listen.” (Jeremiah 13:11, NRSV)
These words moved my heart so deeply, as it was impressed upon me
even more powerfully—the absolute need for intimacy with our
Bridegroom King. An intimate relationship with God has to be the
foremost goal of our lives—before ministry, before position, and before
anything else.
The end of that verse from Jeremiah ends sadly with the words:
“…but they would not listen.”
My question to all of us, including myself, is: Will we heed the call to
intimacy by the Holy Spirit for the Church in these days?
Returning now to verse 4, the latter part reads:
“Now I’ll bring Him back to the temple within, where I was given new
birth—into my innermost parts, the place of my conceiving.”
