SESSION 8 : Song of Songs Chapter 3:6-11 (TPT)
Chapter 3, verse 6 continues with the Shulamite caught up in a spiritual
encounter. Through the eyes of her spirit, she sees something-or
someone—ascending from the wilderness in the pillar of a glory cloud.
Other translations say: “a pillar of smoke.” In this context, the smoke
signifies the power of the Holy Spirit.
The commentary on Song of Songs by Watchman Nee has this to say
on the subject of the smoke and the pillar:
“Smoke is something which in itself is easily dispersed, but here that
weak stuff is formed into a pillar. This implies a new level of strength
in her [the Shulamite] through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.”
As I delved deeper into the meaning and significance of pillars, I
discovered some interesting information that encourages us to
persevere in our faith walk. In 1 Kings 7:21–22, we encounter two
pillars that were erected in the porch of the temple, which King
Solomon built. He even named them. The one on the right side was
called Jachin, and the one on the left Boaz. The meaning of Jachin is
“He shall establish,” and of Boaz: “In it is strength.”
What comfort the Israelites must have experienced from the promises
held within these pillars. Despite their seeming insignificance on earth,
they served as a reminder that their Lord and God—Jehovah—would
fulfil His promise to establish them as a people in their own land and
to give them the strength to occupy it.
