SESSION 8 : Song of Songs Chapter 3:6-11 (TPT)

The term “wilderness” is used to describe “the world” in a negative

sense, with all the vain things it contains. It is a place of aimless
wandering and chaos. But when we offer our lives as living sacrifices

to Jesus, we are called away from drifting through the world, into the
rest and peace of God—who is our All-Sufficient One.

The pillar can also represent Christ, who led the Israelites out of the

wilderness in Exodus chapter 13 verse 21. Furthermore, in the book of
                          3
Revelation 3:12 (KJV), God’s people are referred to as pillars: “Him
that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God …” Just
like the two pillars that helped in supporting the temple of Solomon—

          objects of great strength!

Humans, in their own strength and natural state, are weak and prone to
failure. But as I mentioned previously, with the help of the Holy Spirit,

we become increasingly strong, steadfast, selfless, dependable,
established, and immoveable! This is what is now happening to the

Shulamite—and also to us, as we walk with our God.

The second part of verse 6 (TPT) says that “He is fragrant with the
anointing oils of myrrh and frankincense—more fragrant than all the

spices of the merchant.” Myrrh is symbolic of the sufferings of Christ
and His death on the cross. We too have to be identified with His death

3 A city often honoured a notable citizen by erecting a pillar in a temple with his
name inscribed on it. Thus the Lord will honour his faithful permanently. (Taken
from The New Spirit Filled Life Bible page 1714)
