RADICAL LOVE
a verse of hope! Although we may not know what to do—God does!
The King has us covered.
In Ezra chapter 6, verses 3 and 4, we read these words: “In the first
year of King Cyrus, the king issued a decree concerning the temple of
God in Jerusalem: Let the temple be rebuilt as a place to present
sacrifices, and let its foundations be laid. It is to be sixty cubits high
and sixty cubits wide, with three courses of large stones and one of
timbers. The costs are to be paid by the royal treasury.”
In Scripture, we are called temples of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 2
Corinthians 6:16). This has become possible through the sacrificial
love, grace, and mercy of God, who says the cost for this is to be taken
out of the royal treasury. It is His work, not ours. We don’t deserve it,
and we can’t earn it—it is a gift of pure love. To quote the words of Dr.
Brian Simmons in his commentary on The Song of Songs: “His mercy
takes us where our striving and self-effort cannot.”
Since the COVID pandemic, the Church has been undergoing a
momentous restructuring and rebuilding programme—by God
Himself. This Church will be made up of those who are prepared to
sacrifice themselves and their own agendas for the sake of the extension
of God’s Kingdom here on earth. It will be extremely solid, unified,
strong, and resilient—and built on the foundation of Jesus Christ, our
covenant-keeping God. Isaiah 33:6 (NIV) tells us that “He will be a
sure foundation for your times…”
