THAT WASN’T THE PLAN
After we finished answering the questions, we put our books away,
and I decided to bring out my plan from last night. Even though Jayson
annoyed me by not helping with it, I barely cared anymore—because I
figured I could work on it myself anyway.
I started writing some benefits and qualities of being a girlfriend
and left the boyfriend part aside. But luckily for me, Chris actually saw
what I was doing and wanted to know what it was about.
“What are you doing, Kandis?”
I paused while writing the fourth quality. “Oh, this year, I’m
planning on trying to get a boyfriend, and right now I’m thinking about
the things I want my boyfriend to be—and how I can be a girlfriend.”
“Wow, that’s… that’s cool, I guess. So far, only four?” He raised
his eyebrows, looking surprised.
“Yeah, it’s not really going well. I can’t find much to write about.”
Chris scratched his head, thinking for a moment. “Um… maybe I
could help?”
I was a bit stunned that he wanted to help. I mean—why did he
want to? Why did he care? Why did he bother? I’d only told him half
of what I was planning, and he was already interested and wanted to
help. But I didn’t resist (like Jayson did) and allowed him to help.
So, he took the list and started writing tips and little things I might
need in a boyfriend. He even helped by giving me ideas on how to be a
girlfriend. I was astonished.
“Wow, Chris. This is great—so sweet of you.”
