THAT WASN’T THE PLAN
She then paused, swallowing her words.
“Okay, what happened after?” I rushed her.
Nellie blinked as her long eyelashes curled up. “I told him what
we were doing in Literacy class—and also what you were doing with
Chris. But he didn’t seem a bit happy about it. I mean, I don’t know, he
just frowned, slammed his locker, and left.”
I pulled back into the seat, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.
Why would he be upset about that? Jayson barely cared about my
feelings for boys or even talking to them. He used to take videos of me
crushing and having a meltdown whenever my crushes talked to me
and told me he’d show them to me when I grew up, and I’d just cringe.
I knew it was a joke—we were very young, and we didn’t care. He still
has those videos, but now… he acts so weird when I’m around boys.
