CHAPTER 8




          I
                went straight home without talking or hanging out with any of

               my friends. I actually wanted to find out where Jayson was since
               he’d left the cafeteria for soccer practice, and we didn’t talk or see

          each other again. Even when school ended, I already knew he had gone
          home because, of course, he didn’t wait for me.

               So I stopped. I decided to just stop trying to talk to him. If he

          wouldn’t tell me what was going on—fine. If he kept getting annoyed
          that I was talking about boyfriends and hanging out with Chris—fine.

          I was fed up with him anyway.
               I reached home later, at 3:10, and went straight to my room. I took

          out the boyfriend plan and laid it on my bed. But I immediately thought

          of today—at school and even last night when Jayson and I talked. I
          thought of Chris when he helped write more qualities. And for some

          reason,  I  didn’t  feel  like  finishing  it.  I  didn’t  feel  like  getting  a
          boyfriend anymore. And it was a 75% feeling.

               Uncle Eddie was still home, and since it was only me, him, and
          Myra who were available for the rest of the day, we decided to go to

          the city and hang out for a bit—just for the last time we’d see Uncle

          before Saturday. We came back home around 3:30.
               Anyway, in my room, after I finished undressing and working on

          my school project, I got a call—and it was from Chris. I wondered why
