THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
I quickly covered her mouth. “Really! It’s not a date, just a friend
I’m going out with.”
“Whatever. Do Mom and Dad know?” Myra sighed dramatically.
“No, and they don’t need to know. You know how they overreact
to such things—like when I’m going out at night. Especially Mom.”
“True. Don’t worry, I won’t even tell them.”
I pushed her back toward the door. “Great. Now get out. I’ll be
downstairs in a minute.”
Myra went out, and before I could close the door, she peeped in
and said, “It’s a boy, isn’t it?”
I slammed the door shut on her and didn’t answer. It was a boy—
but not really a date. Chris even said so himself.
Time passed quickly, and it was almost 6 p.m. I went back upstairs
to get ready and put on my outfit. An hour later, I finished getting
myself done and sneaked out of the house to the park. Even though I
knew my sister wouldn’t tell on me, I still had a little feeling I might
get busted. I totally trust Myra, but I don’t trust my parents. They
always manage to find out what I do—including unnecessary things
like “finding out if I’ve taken a shower” or something. They can be
very smart when it comes to figuring out what I’m up to.
Anyway, when I reached the park, it was already 6:10, and Chris
was there. He told me to meet him at a small restaurant called The
Comestio. I entered the restaurant and saw him sitting in the front.
“Hey,” I said, sitting down and fixing my outfit one last time.
Chris smiled softly. “Hi. I’m glad you made it.”
