THAT WASN’T THE PLAN
“Thanks for inviting me. I’m always down to hang with you—
you’re honestly chill to be around.”
“Thanks. You’re a chill person too. Even as a friend, you really get
me sometimes.”
I laid my arms on the table, crossing them. “I think you get me
more in life—especially at school yesterday. I really appreciate you
helping me out with that plan.”
“No problem. Found anyone yet?”
I wanted to say I found you—I wished to say that. But I couldn’t.
“No, still searching. But for now, I want us to focus on something
else.”
Chris took the food menu and looked through it. “Sure. Let’s start
with food. What would you like?”
I also took the other menu and immediately spotted my favourite
dish. It was actually the first food Jayson introduced to me at a party
restaurant where we celebrated my birthday—vegetable dumpling
soup. The taste was excellent. I ordered that with a lemonade drink, and
Chris got a lemon chicken dish with a fruit punch.
We ate our dinner and finished our hangout night with a walk back
home. It was only seven minutes, so we didn’t take long on the way.
But while we were walking, I could feel Chris’s arm brushing
against mine, and I was shivering inside. It made me want to giggle,
and then I did something really stupid—I suddenly took his palm and
held it. So tightly he couldn’t let go. He didn’t let go anyway.
