THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
All this time, he felt more for me than I realized. My best friend…
was in love with me?
“Wha—what? Since when?”
“Since school started. I thought the feelings would go away, but
they’ve been getting worse. And now, I don’t even need to confess to
you anymore — you clearly want Chris as your soulmate.”
Perrie’s fur was getting wet, and she shook herself aggressively.
Then Jayson held the harness less tightly.
I was stunned and speechless. How and why did Jayson like me? I
was even surprised he cared so much about me hanging out with Chris.
“Jayson…” I muttered under my breath. I didn’t know what to say.
“I don’t know how to react to this.”
He breathed out loudly. “You don’t need to. Because I’m done
with this… and you.”
“What are you, breaking this friendship or something?” I joked.
But I was right.
“Yes. I’m sorry, Kandis. It’s for the best. As your best friend, I
don’t want to hurt your feelings by forcing you to stop talking to Chris
because of me. All I did was tell the truth — but don’t take it too
seriously, because I don’t think I’ll stay the same way.”
That’s when I broke down. My heart felt like it dropped into my
stomach. My childhood and teenage best friend just ended our
friendship because of… love.
Why? I don’t know. Maybe because he’s more hurt than he admits
and doesn’t want to make it worse — so he crushes it.
