THAT WASN’T THE PLAN
“He was angry because I made this ‘get a boyfriend this year’ plan
for school, and I guess he overreacted and thought it was stupid to do
that. But because I didn’t listen to him, I asked Chris—my friend that I
hung out with tonight—for help, and Jayson… got annoyed.”
Myra raised her eyebrows in a daze. “Wow. That’s crazy. So now
he’s, what—stopped talking to you?”
“He decided we should separate and break our friendship. He
thinks he knows what’s best for me—and he thinks Chris is—but I
don’t know. I like and want both of them!” I put my hands over my
head dramatically.
“Well… if you’re ever confused about love, you should get
therapy, honey.” She yawned theatrically.
I hit her shoulder lightly with the back of my fist. “Stop! I’m being
serious. It’s not just love—it’s a friendship I never want to separate
from.”
“Listen, I’ve been in this situation before. I’ve lost a lot of
friends—it’s no big deal for me. But you—I get it. And you can fix it.
I know.”
“I know too. But I don’t know if it will work; my plans never do.
Just like the boyfriend one.” I sighed tiredly.
“Oh. I thought that Chris guy you went out with tonight was going
to be yours?”
I chuckled softly. “Please, Chris is just… there for an ‘in-case
situation.’ I’m still going to keep talking to him, but for now, I need to
set my mind on my lost best friend.”
