THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
I nearly choked on my water. Two reasons why: one, his voice
changer—way deeper than I imagined—and two, no, I wasn’t shocked
he won again. He only kept winning because I wasn’t taking it
seriously.
I switched on my mic and softened my voice—not deep like his,
more calm and casual—and said, “No? I’m just… stunned. I mean, a
guy like you, with a name like ‘Prince_IconDash101,’ winning that
fast? Impressive.”
“Eh,” he muttered, pretending to be grumpy. “Just a trick I got
from my dad. He used to be a pro at running—and pretty decent at car
racing in video games.”
“So you’re following in his footsteps?”
“Not exactly. I want to be like him. One day.”
“Well, with skills like that, I wouldn’t doubt it.”
He chuckled but didn’t say anything else, so I assumed he’d turned
his mic off. I did the same and focused back on the game.
The race began.
I was already clocking 180 mph, but he was cruising at 200. At
that point, yeah—I was officially provoked. No way was I losing this
time.
