CHAPTER 5

          I
activated my Hot Wheels, used a couple of tricks to slow him

down, and flew past him. Not long after, his voice chat clicked
back on—he must’ve been just as shocked.

“Whoa! How’d you pass me like that?”
               I didn’t answer because I was focused—and I can’t be interrupted

anytime I’m focused. Especially by a boy (with the weirdest name ever)

who beat me twice. Before he could try to pass me and win again, I
briskly finished the race and crossed the line in first place.

I turned my voice chat back on and said, “I guess it’s a skill.”
He laughed, and we ended the game. But it didn’t end there. He

politely asked for my number—and of course, I said yes. Honestly, I’d

wanted his number from the start. There was just something cool about
          him.

After that, I shut off my computer and flopped onto my bed tiredly.
But just as I glanced at the time—curious how many minutes I had left

before bed—my phone lit up. It was him. The race guy. Already calling.
And thank God… it was a voice call.

               “Hey,” he said first.

“Hi,” I replied in my best girly voice ever.
“Are you free to chat?” he asked.

I checked my timer and realized I only had five minutes left. But a
          quick call wouldn’t hurt.
