Area Agencies on Aging and Disability (AAAD) were established under the Older Americans
Act in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans 60 and over in every local community. By providing a range of options that allow older adults to choose the home and community-based services and living arrangements that suit them best, AAADs make it possible for older adults to “age in place” in their homes and communities.
Who and What are the Area Agencies on Aging & Disability (AAADs)?
Senior Volunteer Transportation Programs Created in Year One
Volunteer transportation strives to meet the five A’s of Senior-Friendly Transportation: Availability, Accessibility, Acceptability, Affordability and Adaptability. The key feature of volunteer transportation (and the reason it is sustainable) is volunteer drivers. This type of transportation does not take the place of existing senior transportation services in Tennessee, it only provides another, more personalized, option for seniors who need door-through-door transportation.
New Senior Volunteer Transportation Services beginning in the 2018-2019 grant year include:
1. MyRide Northwest Tennessee – Gibson County (NWAAAD) 2. MyRide West Tennessee – Henderson County (SWAAAD) 3. MyRide Lawrence County (SCAAAD)
4. MyRide Upper Cumberland – Putnam County (UCAAAD) 5. MyRide Southeast – Bradley County (SETAAAD)
6. MyRide Southeast – Hamilton County (SETAAAD) 7. MyRide Oak Ridge (ETAAAD)
8. MyRide Sevier County (ETAAAD)
9. MyRide Jonesborough (FTAAAD)
10. MyRide Johnson County (FTAAAD) 11. MyRide Kingsport (FTAAAD)
