Warm Season Turf: Bermuda and Zoysia
• Clean Up/Mowing: Warm season grasses should be completely dormant. Keep your lawn at a good height such as 4”. The lawn will certainly appreciate the extra insulation. This is so important and one of the most violated rules of mowing.
• Watering: Water your lawn in dry conditions. Make sure a hard freeze is not in the immediate future.
Pull Soil Analysis
• Soil Amendment: Apply soil amendment as recommended from the soil analysis. If
acidic, lime is recommended. Lime is designed to restore nutrients and reduce the acid in the soil. Weeds thrive in an acidic solid, and the nutrients won’t be available to the plant when the soil is too acidic.
Cool Season Turf: Fescue and Ryegrass
• Mowing: Cool season grasses fluctuate this time of the year. One week they are growing, and the next 2 weeks they are not. Only mow when needed. Never mow more than 1/3 of the grass blade on each cutting.
• Watering: Water your lawn in dry conditions. Make sure a hard freeze is not in the immediate future.
• Fertilizer: Only fertilize in mild conditions. Apply little nitrogen.
Tree and Shrub Care
• Water your landscape as needed.
• Inspect your landscape for over-wintering insect damage.
• Clean Up: Clean/blow out your bed space to make it look refreshed and to remove
ideal harborage for pests.
• Post-Emergent: Apply spot application as needed with a non-selective herbicide for
weeds that are up and active.
