• Fertilizer: The best weed defense is a healthy, thick lawn. Warm season grasses are happy to have our warmer temperatures and are now ready for food in the form of fertilizer. Apply (up to 1 lb.) .5lbs-.75lbs of N per 1,000 sq. ft. You want your lawn to be completely out of dormancy to be able to make the most of the fertilizer that is applied.
• Pre-Emergent: A Pre-Emergent can be applied to extend the residual of the previous pre-emergent applied. Most of the weed seeds have germinated but not all of them. Many weed seeds will germinate throughout the season with favorable moisture and temperatures.
• Post-Emergent: Apply a selective post-emergent herbicide for weeds that are actively growing, and there should be a wide variety from which to choose. Examples of weeds we see this time of year are American burn weed, henbit, clover, dandelions, wild onions, crabgrass, goose grass, dallis grass, and many more.
• Flea and Tick Control: Now is the time to control fleas and ticks. Apply an insecticide to control a wide variety of insects, included but not limited to, fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders and many more. Protect your family and your pets!
• Mosquito Control: Now is the time to implement your strategy to control mosquitoes. Apply an insecticide with a fast knock down and residual to control a wide variety of insects, included but not limited to, mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, chiggers, ants, spiders and many more. Protect your family and your pets!
Cool Season Turf
• Mowing: Cool season grasses, such as Fescue and Ryegrass, have seen their better days. Maintaining decent color and managing weeds are our objectives. Raise your mowing height to around 4”. Cutting too much of the grass blade will lead to heat stress. Mow your lawn every 7-10 days, never cutting more than 1/3 of the grass blade on each cutting. Never cut more than 1/3 of your grass blade on each cutting.
• Watering: In ideal conditions, your lawn needs 2” of precipitation during the growing season per week. It is best to have less frequent, heavy soakings. This can come from rainfall or other means of irrigation. Do NOT overwater. This can be more detrimental than of lack of precipitation.
