1. Lawn Care Applications: (30%)This includes but is not limited to fertilization, pre-emergents, post-emergents, insecticides, and fungicides. Timing is critical with lawn care applications.
2. Mowing: (30%) Proper mowing heights, leaving your clippings on the lawn, alternating mowing direction, and keeping a good set of clean sharp blades will drastically improve your chances of having a beautiful, healthy lawn. Generally, the lower you mow your lawn, the more irrigation it will need over time, especially in dry conditions.
3. Weather: (40%) Mother Nature plays a VITAL role in your lawns success, and unfortunately we can’t control most of that. Therefore, we must make changes in our scheduled plans based off the weather conditions. Cooperation from the weather is a game changer for lawn results.
• Temperatures have a direct impact on how much or how fast the plant grows. Extreme cold or hot temperatures for extended periods of time can be devastating and sometimes detrimental to your turf.
• Rainfall or some type or precipitation is also critical for all the facets of lawn care. All products and plant growth needs water to activate.
Lack of moisture in the soil will starve the plant over time. Moisture not being available to the plant also affects weed control that has recently been applied. In extreme dry conditions, the plant basically shuts down and closes up, not allowing anything to penetrate into the plant, including herbicides.
Too much water can also have damaging effects. For example, too much moisture often times can cause root rot, attract damaging insects, and make the lawn more susceptible to ornamental and turf diseases. Too much moisture also breaks down pre-emergent herbicides, which will quickly lead to more weeds germinating.
