a difficult time facing their emotional side which blocks the flow of intuition. Here again is where culture, particularly in older men, seems to drive the emotional experience of boys into the unconscious.
Those men profiled who drive their lives by their internal guidance have all addressed this in some way. Two through their religious beliefs and the rest through a spiritual quest to integrate their intuitive side.
In one case, this was driven by a near-death experience.
All but three of the total people interviewed (75+) believe we have an internal guidance system. Some say that it is divinely based. Others believe it is the ability to draw from our unconscious reservoir.
Of the three who do not believe in internal guidance, one is very high on the Extroversion/Sensation score of the Myers-Briggs personality typing system based on Jung’s functions of consciousness.
I would describe this man as relatively happy, quite healthy and doing well financially. I believe he may have internal guidance, but he would not attribute his life’s direction to his intuition. He seems to be the one exception among the people interviewed.
