CHAPTER 9: DISCERNING INTUITION
How does one discern and make choices on what is often conflicting information?
After asking everyone interviewed, those people who have the greatest trust in their intuition, answer by saying things like “You feel lighter. There is a feeling of knowing. Or, you just know.” The problem arises when you get intuitive information that dramatically contradicts what you were either expecting or hoping to get.
Doug Krug experienced an intuitive hit on his way to the hot tub when his intuition said “go to the car” (See chapter 5 Section 4) or on his way to the airport and it said “go to the doctor.”
In one case he didn’t immediately trust the message and it kept coming back stronger with each turn. In the case of going to the doctor, he trusted the feeling he got even in the face of doctors telling him they could find nothing wrong. He insisted on further testing and it proved that he needed immediate treatment.
Ultimately, discerning is as much about trust as it is about differentiating. As you build trust in your intuition, you will follow it in the face of contradicting information.
