Neutrality Rules Aect Broadband RProviders and Their Subscribers?
umored rollbacks on policies for Net Neutrality and Open Internet Orders are causing a stir in the broadband industry.
BOURQUE
New Federal Communication Commission
(FCC) chair, Ajit Pai, has been staunchly by Stephane Bourque, President
critical of net neutrality legislation — casting
his vote against the net-neutrality order in
2015. Under this new leadership, we’ve seen numerous announcements over the past few weeks that have signaled the FCC pulling back on some recently passed policies, such as closing the investigation into wireless carriers' free-
data o erings and revoking the controversial “midnight regulations”.
While the minutiae of regulatory changes concerning net neutrality are yet to be con rmed, one common theme is becoming evident: under a Trump administration, less regulation will be placed on broadband service providers.

One of the risks of repealing net neutrality
is that the current level playing eld that we
all enjoy may come into jeopardy. Current net neutrality rules were set in place to give everyone on the Internet a fair and level playing eld in which to share information and content. If a decision was made to repeal net neutrality, it would open the door for service providers to begin favoring sites and content producers that are willing to pay for preference, silencing the smaller and less powerful content producers. Optimizing tra c to one website over another would create numerous challenges for these smaller and less pro table organizations, and
