Amy’s Comments
As we head towards summer, and as the school year here is over, I just want to remind families of some of the wonderful ways, other than camp, we can help keep you connected to Jewish education over the summer.
We have such a wonderful library, bursting with excellent children’s books. These are for you to borrow. We have GOOD books for all ages. If you need recommendations, please let me know!
In my office there are some games that you are welcome to borrow – these are especially useful for beginning Hebrew students to keep the summer slide at a minimum. Not as fun, but more useful, are Hebrew flashcards, which you can also borrow. Even a few minutes a week will help keep your child’s Hebrew skills fresh.
There are a few websites that are good for locating activities: My Jewish Learning is good for information and for pointing towards other resources (www.myjewishlearning.com); Creative Jewish Mom (sorry dads – I wish this was a more inclusive site name!) is a site that has some good activities, mostly for younger children (www.creativejewishmom.com); Kveller has good crafts, and a good newsletter for Jewish parents. Although they don’t have a crafts/ activities page, just search using one of those terms and a good list come ups (www.kveller.com); and, of course, Pinterest has more Jewish children’s activities than you could ever do. I also have books in my office that you are welcome to borrow.
Finally, there is the weekly opportunity for Jewish connection that is Shabbat – either in your home or here for services.
Have a wonderful summer!

Religious School is Seeking Volunteers
Are you good at crafts or art? Do you like to sing with others? Have you always wanted to cook your favorite Jewish foods with children? How is your Israeli folk dancing? Are you a
frustrated storyteller?
The CKA Religious School is seeking volunteers to help us add occasional enrichment activities to our Sunday mornings. If you have a special talent, skill or passion that you would like to share with our students, please contact Amy.
We would also like to create a substitute "pool" for both Sunday mornings and Thursday evening Hebrew. If you are able to contribute in this way, please let Amy know.
Finally, the Religious School could use some magazines suitable for collages. You can leave them in the library.
Thank you and have a great summer!
One Book One Read Recap
Conversation flowed at One Book One Read as we discussed the controversial Israeli novel, “Waking Lions.” Though not many people actually liked the book, there was plenty to talk about concerning this complex moral tale of ethical decisions, the hard choices we make and the secrets we keep. We talked at our tables over a delicious Israeli dinner – shawarma from Petra House contributed by KAWRJ, plus a range of appetizers, sides and desserts. A group discussion was then ably led by Jan L. Many thanks to her and everyone for supporting this event.
