Establishing a Modern and Efficient Meeting Culture
or global colleagues are dialed into an office meeting, they’re struggling to hear over in- room conversation with no visibility into the room dynamics.
Video conferencing is a critical tool for solving these issues. Colleagues need to be seen and likewise see each other in order to effectively participate. If the employee in the home office is connected via video, they are going to be more engaged in the conversation. All of the colleagues in the office participating in the meeting should also be on video to create equal visibility. This ensures everyone is accountable and likely to contribute.
Be respectful of time

long in a meeting, you don’t know if the

The meeting norms of the last decade have shifted dramatically in recent years as the modern workplace is
no longer confined to office walls. With the adoption of remote work and the proliferation of global business, employees are more likely to pick up the phone or send a text to speak to a colleague rather than to walk to their desk. With these changes come new challenges in how we work together and conduct meetings.
While distance between colleagues is easily overcome with UCC technologies, there is still the pressing question of whether our meetings are truly productive. Unguided discussions, lack of engagement and too
few hours for dedicated work are important concerns we must address.
Here are a few tips for addressing these productivity challenges and establishing an effective meeting culture reflective of today’s work environment.
Meetings are meant to be a tool for employees, not an annoyance in their workday. The problem is the constant flood of meetings that end up breaking the day into smaller segments, not conducive to dedicated work. Furthermore, if employees feel that they don’t have enough time for real work, they’ll end up multitasking during meetings which degrades the conversation.
To counteract the proliferation of meetings and the increasing frustration of employees, teams should carefully evaluate which meetings are necessary and where sessions can be cut. This requires directly asking colleagues what their days and assignments look like. It’s important to not exclude remote employees from this discussion as they’ll often have meetings put on their calendar without any insight into their priorities. Focus on engagement
If seven colleagues are in a meeting, how many are actually participating? Are the silent participants multitasking, or are they unable to effectively communicate? To help address the problem, make sure everyone in the meeting is clearly visible and able to hear the conversation. Often, when remote employees
