Long, long ago, two giants met in a land at the top of the world.
One came from the northern Kingdom of Buddha.
One came from the southern Kingdom of Brahma, whose family was large.
For many centuries everyone lived at peace with one another. They called their land Nepal.
People’s houses cluster into villages.
Some villages cling tenaciously to mountainsides. Others nestle in huge valleys — farmland and forests
like patchwork quilts.
