The COVID-19 Effect:
The New Normal
The recent weeks have been a challenging time for all of us. The affect the coronavirus has had on the global economy and the impact to our local market and communities are yet to be seen.
I am not sure if you have had the same challenges my family, co-workers and friends have faced in practicing social distancing. With teenagers at home, it is hard
for them to stop visiting public places, meeting up with their friends or going out to eat.
My company, Century Communities, has implemented new office hours and staffing requirements. Working from my home office is productive but I miss the interaction with my team, our clients and GSABA members.
Many of us have implemented ‘handshake-free’ and ‘no hugging’ zones. Others have closed their offices or have split staffs for limited contact. It has been interesting to see how builders and developers have reacted to opening their model homes and amenity centers. Some communities are limiting the number of people in the model to 10 to ensure that we keep a safe and appropriate distance from each other, while others have closed their models for a few weeks.
We have all felt the hurt from buyers who have lost their jobs or have had their hours reduced. After a strong sales month in February, COVID19 will have an impact on sales for the month of March. Together, we can weather this storm and your Association is here to help.
After the school closures and restrictions put into place by the mayor and City of San Antonio, your GSABA leadership team made the decision to move the 2020 Spring Tour of Homes from April to May to comply with the mandates of ‘social distancing’, and concerns from our members. We have called each of the developers and builders and the date change was welcomed and approved.
For builders who didn’t have a chance to enter a home in the scattered site tour, it isn’t too late. We have an impressive advertising and marketing campaign in place that includes television, a full run tabloid insert, print, digital, and social media. You can find more information on how to sign up along with the cost in this issue of the April Builder Brief.
GSABA has canceled all committee and council meetings for the month of April. This includes the Membership Mixer scheduled for April 23rd at Delta Granite. The 3-PAC Fundraiser & Clay Shoot has been rescheduled to October 7th, and the ProAM Golf Tournament scheduled for Monday, April 27th has been cancelled.
We will reschedule all education and training classes in the forthcoming months. The GSABA staff will send information to you once they have been scheduled. The leadership team and staff continue to be committed, providing exceptional customer service and answering any questions. Should you need any assistance please reach out to them by email or call the Association at 210-696-3800. We are asking all members to make an appointment with staff in advance.
We are all in this together and your Association is committed to meeting the needs of our members during this critical time. You will find more communication coming from the GSABA leadership team and staff in the weeks ahead.
We want to connect with you and are committed to championing any issues that you, as a member, might have. Feel free to send me an email at Jeff.Czar@centurycommunities.com. Thank you for your continued support of GSABA and the home building industry.
Sincerely,
6
