JEFF CZAR President
Why Housing Is
More Essential Than Ever
July 4th is here, and it is always a pleasure to celebrate the independence of the United States of America. We can all be proud of our role in building and sustaining communities and fighting to protect homeownership. Everyone deserves a roof over their heads and a safe place to call home.
During this pandemic, we have seen a shift in how people view their homes. With the recent ‘Stay at Home’ orders lifted; our builders have reported that they have seen an increase in the number of qualified buyers in the market for a new home. Homes have become our schools, offices, playgrounds and sanctuaries and this has
reminded us all just how essential housing is.
With employment numbers on the rise and mortgage rates at an all time low, our industry should continue to fuel the economy. While this year as your president has been challenging, I am proud to lead the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) and join other members to continue to make our voices heard. Together, we are the voice of the residential construction and remodeling industry.
Your leadership team and the GSABA staff are plugged into cities you are actively building and developing in and together, we identify local issues that could increase the cost of building, remodeling and buying a home. GSABA covers 22 counties and we are working diligently to keep abreast of changes and challenges facing our members. If you have an issue with any municipality, utility provider or regulatory agency, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or to Kristi Sutterfield.
We recently wrapped up the 2020 Parade of Homes in Cantera Hills. Six Builders showcased luxurious custom homes with incredible amenities. Everyone worked hard to adhere to social distancing guidelines and sanitation protocols. We continue to look for creative ways to promote our builders and members while engaging the homebuying public. Everyone should be proud of the commitment and time investment that went into hosting an event of this magnitude. Thank you to Laddie Denton and his team along with our Parade builders, the volunteers and GSABA staff members who had a role in hosting this 9-day event.
In closing, I wanted to share a few date changes to key GSABA events coming up. The Summit Awards has been moved to Thursday, November 5th from the Omni Hotel to the Don Strange Ranch. There are additional details in this issue of the Builder Brief. If you entered the Summit Awards this year, you will be receiving additional information in the next week on the date change.
Please be sure and check the calendar on page 26 as there are new dates for the Pro-AM Golf Tournament; Fishing Tournament and the 3-PAC event. We hope that you can join us for each of these events.
While we have found ourselves thrust into a time of uncertainty, the collective efforts of our Association’s members to persevere and rise above the challenges presented is nothing short of inspiring. This is the kind of American spirit that helps us all to remember what it means to be a proud American, a proud Texan and a proud San Antonian. It’s also why I continue to be proud to serve as your 2020 president.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July,
6
