President’s Message
Welcome to the 2021 San Antonio Housing ForecastTM
 affordability
started meeting with our elected officials.
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) forecasts that strong housing demand suggests continued gains for home construction in 2021 but as affordability declines and supply side limitations grow, this will generate lower housing growth nationally than those gains recorded this past year.
In addition, the 87th Legislature kicked off Tuesday, January 12th in Austin, TX. It is rumored that a bill could be introduced to tax construction labor. GSABA’s Executive Vice President, Kristi Sutterfield, will send regular updates and calls for action. Working together, we can defeat bad bills and support legislation that is good for housing
Every member should be concerned with the affordability factor of new homes, especially in the Greater San Antonio area. The local price increases have impacted thousands of potential home buyers.
While we have experienced a very robust market Sincerely,
         Ed Berlanga 2021 GSABA President
There is a real threat
to housing
Happy New Year! I am honored to serve as the 2021 President of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA). This is the 35th year that Jack Inselmann has presented GSABA’s annual housing forecast. It is the single most comprehensive local market forecast for our 22-county jurisdiction. Thank you, Jack, for your time investment and your commitment to the Association.
The GSABA leadership team and key members are very involved on the local, state, and national levels. This year will be a critical legislative year. The Presidential elections are behind us and we will need to be more engaged in Washington than we have ever been. We have already
during the pandemic, home price growth and rising construction costs have negatively impacted us all. We must stand together to fight needless fees, regulations and delays that affect our bottom line and our closings.
I want to invite you to get involved with GSABA and our Government Affairs outreach efforts. Please consider joining GSABA’s local Government Affairs Committee or one of the City Teams that work in our 22-county jurisdiction.
We have several active City Teams being led by Tim Pruski with Bella Vista Homes, Shad Schmid with King Fish Development and Joe Leos with DR Horton Homes. If you are having an issue with a city, please call one of these members or Kristi at 210-696-3800.
Please mark your calendars and join us for the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) statewide Rally Day that will be held in Austin on Wednesday, February 24th. We have chartered a bus to leave GSABA that morning at 8:30am and return by 6:00pm. GSABA has rented adequate meeting space at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Austin on 15th Street across the street from the State Capitol.
We have eight (8) face-to-face meetings in place as of today’s date and we will coordinate meetings with social distancing and sanitation guidelines in place. You can also drive your personal vehicle to Austin if you wish. Valet parking will be available at the DoubleTree Hotel.
Thank you for being a member of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association. I look forward to working with you this year.
