A New
Beginning
The NRP Group gives a veteran a new beginning and home
Taylor Brown, President of NRP Construction, executes with one goal in mind—everyone deserves a quality home. Dan Hull, Sr. Vice President of Construction, is taking that goal one step further. In keeping with its culture of helping communities, Keep the NRP Group reached out in November 2016 to Rebuilding Together San Antonio, an organization that provides extensive home rehabilitation to low-income homeowners as well as to our military veterans across the county at no cost to the homeowner. Mr. Hull requested one of the most difficult projects that Rebuilding Together was working on in San Antonio, Texas, and a home rebuild was at the top of their list.
The homeowner, Emerto Villareal, a military veteran who was on hospice care, in addition to his wife who was recovering from a broken hip had solicited help to remodel a bedroom and bathroom to be fully handicap accessible to help ease with their care. When NRP inspected the property, it was determined that the home was in desperate need of repair and that there was no way to limit the assistance to a room and a bathroom. The answer—try to rebuild the entire home.
Casey Cornwell, Vice President of Construction at NRP led the charge in reaching out and collaborating with NRP’s San Antonio building and material partners. Everyone responded with an overwhelming desire to help with this project without hesitation. With the assistance offered, NRP and its partners could do the right thing—bulldoze a house that was below livable conditions and rebuild it from the ground up.
Earlier this year, Mr. Villareal had passed away. However, his family was informed that plans are moving forward to continue to rebuild their home. Part of the installations will include a flagpole, sitting bench and garden area in front

of the home that will serve to honor Mr. Villareal and his heroic service to our country.
“My dad was able to rest easily when he passed away knowing that my mom would be safe in her new home,” said Gina Villareal, daughter. “He gratefully appreciated everyone involved for what they are doing for our family.”
Mr. Villareal was a mortar man who fought in the La Drang Valley, one of the first major battles between American soldiers and North Vietnam. A movie produced about this battle in 2002, We Were Soldiers, starring Mel Gibson was a film about valor and nobility under fire, loyalty among soldiers, and the heroism and sacrifice of men and women both home and abroad.
“The NRP Group appreciates and greatly values all of our members of our armed services who have fought and given their lives to protect our country,” said Dan Markson, Sr. Vice President Development, The NRP Group. “We are honored to be able to help the family of Mr. Villareal and may his memory live on with his family in their new home.”
