and builders. The trend of “bringing the outdoors inside” that has been working its way throughout Central Texas for a while is complimented by the furniture Bernhardt offers. Another hot brand is Vanguard — for similar reasons. Vanguard offers great quality indoor collections that are both stylish and easy to maintain — lending itself to the "no fuss" lifestyle everyone is after.
Q What colors and color types are popular right
now?
Warm neutral colors are really big. “Greige” – a gray
color with warm brown undertones – is raging
in the design world right now. Blues
and greens are
also popular. With
blue, any shade will
do — whether you
like royals, turquoise,
aqua or navy, you’ll see
all shades of blue making a statement in every designer’s pallet

Yes, cold grays are dead! They have been used to death for years and people are sick of it. If you’re tempted to slap that cool gray color on the wall, don’t do it. Another style that is out right now is anything that can be described as “fussy.” The old world, heavy, clunky, ornate, carved look is dated. While some aspect of this look will never fully go out of style, it’s almost non-existent in the collections that can be found today — you just can’t find it

Fabrics that

now are high
performance, livable,
cleanable and durable. Sunbrella
is a line that does this well. This brand makes great fabrics for both indoor and outdoor pieces. They have what we call a “great hand” – meaning they feel wonderful to the touch.
What are the stand-out trends for individual rooms?
In general, you’re going to see the trend of “less is more” throughout the home. Bedrooms will be a lot cleaner and simplified. That translates to no clutter, less pillows, comfortable fabrics and overall less stuff
in the room.
In bathrooms you’ll see a similar trend with less pattern and instead more texture. You’ll also see materials that lend themselves to lower maintenance. Porcelain is really popular, for example, because it can look like real marble but doesn’t require all of the annual maintenance. Porcelain has also been proven to be almost bullet proof for use in showers and bathroom floors. Quartz countertops in bathrooms are also popular due to its low maintenance and durability.
In kitchens, man-made quartz is by far the most sought-after material for countertops. Not only is the material durable, it’s anti-
bacterial because
it is less porous
than granite
making it difficult
for germs to hide.

requirement buyers seek as we live through this pandemic. One particular appliance we’ve been seeing quite a bit of in kitchens is the steam oven. With more people cooking from home, this natural, healthy cooking method will continue to rise in popularity and we expect this
tQrend to become more common.
Do you expect any changes in trends due to the pandemic?
The success of good interior design is tracking how people live inside their homes. It’s one of the primary things we seek to understand about our customers. As more people do more at home, we’ve seen more interest in desks for both adults and kids. We’re also seeing requests for more comfortable quiet spaces where they can work with their laptops. This usually translates to a nice comfortable chair with an ottoman. In kitchens, we see what we refer to as “transitional dining tables” that have multiple uses. Dining rooms are only being built if the homeowner
