CTE Student Intern Program Puts Grads on Fast Track to their Futures
Five BPS seniors have graduated from the Facilities Services-Plant Operations and Maintenance (PO&M)/CTE Student Intern Program for the 2018-2019 school year.
Last summer, the rising seniors from Space Coast Jr./Sr. High CTE HVAC program started internships working 40 hours per week for 8 weeks in the HVAC and electrical trade areas. In the fall, the students selected a trade area and worked three hours per day for the entire school year.
The trades supervisors and technician/mentors worked with the students to prepare them for employment. Upon graduation, three of the student interns have accepted full time employment with BPS Plant Operations and Maintenance HVAC and Electrical Departments and two of the students will be joining the military.
To date, 21 interns have entered the Facilities Services- Plant Operations and Maintenance/CTE Student Intern Program. Seven have been hired by BPS Plant Operations and Maintenance for full time employment. Two of those hired have moved on to the private sector, one of which is now working for Trane and repairing our chillers.
