K-12 instructional literacy interventions is the theme of the 19th annual literacy symposium at UCF’s College of Education and Human Performance on April 7.
The one day of workshops is slated to teach the latest trends in literacy and education, including reading interventions for all students, classroom technology, reading and writing, EL and ESE instruction, supporting the needs of readers in the content areas, and other topics. Attendees also have an opportunity to gain knowledge about proven literacy practices
and resources while networking with fellow educators from around the state.

The Northrop Grumman Foundation and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) announced that five out of 25 educators chosen as teacher fellows in the 2016-2017 Northrop
Grumman Foundation Teachers Academy are from Florida. Selected from targeted areas
across the country, Brevard Public Schools had two teacher fellows selected to participate: Linda
Johnson of West Shore Jr./Sr. High in Melbourne and Stephanie White of Hans Christian Andersen Elementary in Rockledge.
The teacher fellows were selected on the basis of several criteria, including displaying a strong desire to advance STEM education and applying
real-world applications in the
classroom. The fellowship
program will help them
develop lesson(s)/units that
integrate an authentic and
real-world application linked to their externship experiences and develop tools/resources to
share with colleagues to help build capacity for engineering and technology instruction within their schools and districts.
“I am very thankful and honored to be part of such an amazing fellowship. I can’t wait to turn this opportunity into something great for my students, Andersen Elementary, and Brevard County,” said White.
