The
Theme Behind
the Dream
What is your dream telling you?
Story by Emma Kelleher
Imagine waking up in Candyland, with a marshmallow bed and cotton candy as clouds. Rivers of chocolate and trees of candy canes are in the distance. The hum of delight plays in the background of the wonderful display, but turns into the annoying blare of an alarm clock. An amazing fantasy, but only a dream.
According to psychologistworld.com and other sources, each dream tells a story, either simple or not, that can change someone’s perspective on their life.
Teeth Falling Out
This dream, although it seems to be exotic and rare, is pretty common among the population. It may seem to have a plain meaning (get better oral care), but that is far from the truth. This wacky dream can represent a few different things, such as signs of personal growth, a secret wish to be nurtured, a growth in self esteem, and rebirth. In general, these pearly white teeth in dreams represent the growth of something new. In some cases, they represent power and personal strength. So, the next time teeth appear in a dream, it’s not the dentist sending a warning, just the brain reminding dreamers of their internal strength and power.
Failing a Test
Although high schoolers may have this dream quite frequently, people who have long since finished school can experience these midnight visions as well. This dream represents the desire to hold back. It shows a lot about someone’s self esteem and a lack of confidence. Although viewers may believe this is a glimpse into the next school day’s events, people who see this dream are actually unlikely to fail a test in reality.
Vehicles
Dreams about modern transportation units do not represent the new car dealership down the road or the Tesla commercial played on television. These dreams have a deeper and more inner meaning: they show what direction someone feels their life is taking and how much control someone thinks they have over the path ahead of them.
Death
Dark and scary dreams, known as nightmares, are very common. Most of the time in dreams, a person will wake up before their dream death can take place. But it isn’t rare to witness another death in these night-visions. Death can symbolize a dramatic change where something has to end to form something new.
Flying vs
Falling
Soaring above the clouds in a dream can present a special feeling
of control. They show an act of being in charge and on top of a situation. Flying dreams show the positive side to problem-solving. Flying can also show freedom and escape, signaling a sense of possibility, and hope. Flying dreams normally take a positive overlook on a situation and present the solution to a problem.
Falling from the heights can be a signal of insecurities, anxieties, and feeling out of control. These dreams can reflect a sense of failure. When
falling, there is nothing to hang on to, and often these dreams take place when one fears they can no longer hold on to a job or responsibility. Dreams of falling normally take a negative overlook on a situation and present a problem instead of a solution.
