On The Girl’s Basketball
Being an undersized team with a lot of injuries the girl’s varsity basketball team fought hard throughout the entire season. The girls overcame challenges all season long but overcame them and won some exciting games. On senior night the girl’s had their first win of the season beating Merritt Island Christian School with an outstanding score of 45-19. This win meant a lot to the entire team but especially to senior captain Jieli Wegerif.
“This season was the best one of my career here at Edgewood. I am so excited to see how this program continues to grow under this coaching staff. Winning our senior night was amazing and a really great send off,” Wegerif said.
Following senior night the girls claimed to more wins beating Satellite High School and Cocoa Beach to finish their season strong.
The girl’s junior varsity team had a great season finishing with a 8-7 record. The girl’s fought hard all season and won some great games against Viera and Cocoa.
Boy’s Soccer
Having suffered several injuries throughout the season, the boy’s varsity soccer team had a notable season with a record of 9 wins, 6 loses, and 2 ties. The boy’s secured an important win against our big island rival Merritt Island with a score of 4-0. The boy’s also had an amazing record in the Cape Coast Conference claiming the title of the North Cape Coast Conference Champions. Seniors, Sawyer Davidson and Theo Cox, were both named to the Cape Coast Conference team.
“It’s an honor to be all conference two years in a row. To be considered to be one of the best 11 in the conference is awesome, especially considering how strong it is,” Cox said.
Head Coach Eddie Al-Shihabi also received the title of Coach of the Year for the entire Cape Coast Conference.
