Studying Snakes
How do we know so much
about snakes? By learning from herpetologists (HER-pe-to-le-jists)!
These scientists study snakes
and other reptiles, and research
where snakes live, what they
look like, if they are aggressive
or shy, what they eat, and how
they catch their food. Some experts also study places where snakes and people live near each other, which tends to happen when people use more land to build houses. This can be a big problem in countries where snakebites happen often. When scientists can teach people about the kinds of snakes in their area and how to stay safe around them, this is a win-win for both snakes and humans.
