Matthew,” said Barry Pichard, Sunrise Elementary principal. “The health department staff, Brevard County Parks and Recreation staff, volunteers, SCAT bus services, Coastal Ambulance services, Palm Bay Police and BPS employees working together at Sunrise made our shelter days a success for those needing our care.”
“The first day is kind of chaos, but by the final days it’s like we have met a new friend, and we laugh and we call each other shelter family,” Arnold said.
“The greatest asset that we provide at
our special needs shelter was the caring team of professionals (nurses, school based employees, police officers, National Guard, transportation, Brevard County workers, and many volunteers) that pulled together to ensure that our clients were well cared for and comfortable,” said Jennifer Brockwell, Oak Park Elementary principal. “We weathered this storm together!”
“My children wanted me to evacuate, but I told them I will be ok and I need to be at the school and do what I do best, (which is) feed these wonderful people. They didn’t like it but they understand,” Arnold said.
“I was very fortunate to work with a top- notch team that exemplified collaboration, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated kindness to all. No task was
