Frequently Asked Questions and How to Apply
Q: What is the difference between Educational Location Option (ELO) and Educational Program Opportunity (EPO)?
A: ELO is based solely on location. EPO is a decision based on a curriculum program or theme of study. Both require an annual application.
Q: Who is eligible to apply for an ELO or EPO?
A: All applicants must be a Florida resident at the time of application. You will be
required to provide two proofs of Florida residency from the approved list of items, i.e., driver’s license, lease, voter’s card, current utility bill. More information on proof of residency can be found on Brevard Public Schools website (www.brevardschools.org).
Q: What are the timelines to apply for an ELO or an EPO? A: Please see the first page of this calendar.
Q: How can I apply?
A: You can apply on-line at:
Q: Can I apply to more than one location or program?
A: Yes, you can apply to more than one location or program. Each application
requires a $30 non-refundable application fee.
Q: Can I receive a fee waiver?
A: Yes, a fee waiver is available to families that meet the federal poverty guidelines.
The EIC website, under the left tab entitled “forms,” explains the federal guidelines for poverty. Submit all required paperwork to the EIC office in order to obtain a fee waiver coupon code BEFORE you apply online.
Q: Is transportation provided to a school other than my zoned school? A: No, transportation is not provided to any other school than the zoned school.
Q: What is a zoned school of attendance?
A: A zoned school of attendance is the school your student would attend based on
your home address. To check what school you are zoned for visit: http://apps.schoolsitelocator.com/?districtcode=00777
Q: How will I know my application was received or accepted? A: You can check your application online via the parent dashboard at:
https://brevardflc.scriborder.com/order_tracker
Additionally, our vendor, Scribbles Software, will send an automated email. If you do not receive an email, check your junk/spam folder. All further communications will come directly from the school.
Q: What is sibling preference?
A: Legal family members of a current student who is residing in the same
residence as their sibling, who will also begin their attendance at the same school and year as the current student, qualify for sibling preference. Siblings who do not begin their attendance at the school while the current student is attending do NOT qualify for sibling preference. Students who apply for an EPO must meet the program requirements, and it is based on space availability.
Q: Can step-children apply for an ELO or EPO under sibling preference?
A: Step-children can receive sibling preference if the parents meet the following criteria: Proof of marriage, Proof that step-parent has legal guardianship, and children live with the step-parent.
Q: How is the lottery handled if I have twins, multiples, or same grade siblings?
A: The parent will have the option to receive one lottery number for all students or be assigned separate numbers for each student. If all students receive one lottery number, the students will be treated as one for the same grade level. If each student receives a separate number, no sibling preference would be afforded since entrance would be based solely on each student’s lottery draw as separate numbers.
Q: How do I commit to an Educational Program?
A: Once you receive an acceptance letter(s) from a school(s) you will be
required to sign a commitment letter. You may only sign ONE commitment letter, and it MUST be returned by the deadline. If you commit to more than one school you forfeit your acceptance, and your child will be required to go to their zoned school of attendance.
Q: Must my child remain in the Educational Program?
A: Yes, they must remain actively enrolled in the educational program. If a student withdraws from the educational program during the school year
they MUST return to their zoned school of attendance.
