  What’s Cool in Schools
Meadowlane Primary
Meadowlane Primary kindergartners made their own gingerbread people to celebrate the holidays, but while at their activity, the gingerbread people escaped! The school’s Student Resource Officer took a “Missing Gingerbread Report” and then spotted them playing on the playground. The gingerbread people were captured and returned to their happy owners. Freedom never tasted so good!
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
- Winston Churchill
Atlantis Elementary
Atlantis Elementary hosted its first “Giving Tuesday” with a very special holiday event inspired by a Texas principal and author who allowed his teachers to buy a book for each of their students for Christmas. While the funds weren’t there to purchase books for every Atlantis student, administration did the next best thing. They combined efforts with the Port St. John community to collect enough gently-used books to gift to every one of their 720 students! On Giving Tuesday, they opened up a makeshift bookshop and every class came through. Each student selected
a book of their choice and received a bookmark for the holidays.
Editor’s Note: An error was noted in the November edition “2018-2019 Florida School Recognition Program Awards” chart. The award total for Brevard Virtual Franchises should have read $56,435.
