Halloween’s history goes
back thousands of years and is a
blend of ancient traditions, religion,
and folklore that evolved over time.
Halloween in America
European immigrants,
especially the Irish in the 19th
century, brought Halloween to North
America. It gradually shifted from a
superstitious, religious observance
to a community-centered holiday. By the early 20th century,
Halloween parties, games, costumes, and pumpkin carving
(adapted from Irish turnip lanterns) became popular.
Modern Halloween
Today, Halloween is widely celebrated in the United
States and many other countries with costumes, trick-or-treating,
haunted houses, and festive decorations. It’s both a commercial
holiday and a cultural one, blending its spooky, ancient past with
playful traditions.
