Along with another set of human security analysis, this section presents an additional dimension of how human security is put into practice through empowerment strategies. Local community members, leaders and activists in Mexico, the Philippines and Zimbabwe relect on how citizen action, advocacy, and community and multi-stakeholder dialogues have led to the empowerment of local actors towards collective human security strategies. They also demonstrate the importance of collective action and social movements in inluencing security policy, and the important role that knowledge of human and civic rights plays in empowering civilians to protect themselves.
