National Show Champion 2023
This year’s 2023 National Show Champion was won By Paige Jepson with Cotonhall Jackpot Starlet. What a journey she has made. She was purchased in a private sale by Martin Tidmarsh for his Foldspride herd from Cotonhall in the summer of 2018.
Starlets first show debut was at the All Britain calf
show in 2018 as a junior calf winning her class. At the National show in 2019 Starlet won the in calf heifer class before calving in 2020 with twin heifers. Covid struck with no shows but Starlet still had a successful year with classifying VG87 at a 2 year old she was entered in the North Midlands herds competition winning 1st in a classes of 20 head forward for that class. Summer 2021 the Foldspride herd was dispersed with Starlet gaining a lot of interest, she topped the sale at £2780 going home with Paige Jepson to the Rowanmoor herd, who used to relief milk for Martin and already had a special connection with Starlet.
In 2022 Starlet won the dry cow class at Leek and Ashbourne show along with being Reserve Breed Champion at Ashbourne. Calving her 3rd calf in spring 2023 she was ready to hit the summer shows in milk with Stafford show being her first outing she won Breed Champion before heading to the National Show at Royal
Cheshire Show where she was tapped out as Breed Champion by Judge Owain Harris who praised her for being balanced with lots of dairy character.
The Starlet family originated from James and Henry Robinsons Strickley herd. James’ grandfather purchased calves from the neighbouring Homland Holstein Friesian herd, owned by the Bell family in the late 70’s, as red
and whites were not really wanted by Friesian herds back then. They were crossed with the newly imported Illawarra bull Meadowhaven Prides Starr starting the Starlet, Starbud and Telstar families.
Strickley Starlet 60th sired by Glanhirwen Fanfare was purchased by Graham & Barbara Bell of Irthingvale herd producing two heifers for them. Irthingvale Rebel Starlet was sold as a yearling at a Society Sale at Beeston Castle Market in 2006. Purchased by the Tabley herd renowned for purchasing youngstock to rear, calve and sell at later Society Sales. Rebel Starlet calved fresh in Autumn
