 U
is the letter for 2023
                   President’s Message
My thanks go to everyone who has made this year so memorable for me. You, the Breeders, are the backbone of our society and as I have travelled around various shows, meetings and herds I see the results of all the hard work put in over many years. This is borne out by the quality of Shorthorn cattle I have seen in and from all corners of the UK.
It goes without saying, that the many Interbreed awards at a large number of shows bear out that we are making a difference, we can see fruit from our labours. I hear people talking favourably at the ringsides, seen the interest at our show stands and continue to hear and experience young people wanting to get involved in the breed.
It is the young people that
continue to inspire us all with their enthusiasm and professionalism. This has been evident at every show I’ve visited and I have seen more new faces getting involved as the year has gone on, which gives even more hope for a bright future. Well done, congratulations to you all, and we look forward to more successes for you next year.
It has been a year of changes for
the office. Ros Rimmer and Claire Ward moved on to pastures new.
In place arrived Pedigree Livestock Services headed by Andy Ryder as Company Secretary. A big thank
you to Andy and his extensive team in his office who have taken on the sharp learning curve of manning the Society. Special thanks to Elizabeth who has been many members point of contact and worked very hard with registrations. The PLS team have attended many shows to greet breeders and I am confident that you can see the benefits that they
offer the society and am assured that they will help man the helm to progress the breed further in the right direction.
We continue to be indebted to Graham Bell, our field officer and our PR Officer Rachael Madeley, whose tireless, an often unseen, work continues to publicise the breed and continues to help Shorthorn Sires
be successful. Thanks Graham and Rachael for all you do.
I’d like to finish in thanking everyone around the country I met this
year. Your hospitality has made it
a pleasure and seeing wonderful dairy shorthorns cows along the way has made it very enjoyable
and rewarding. Please continue to support your Society so that the Society may support you.
